May 19th, 2007 Bugs, Bites, and Blisters

Reviewing “Immunology, Pathology, and Infectious Diseases” for next week’s exams (how dreadful!) afterwhich all that will remain is our Body Systems 2 exams. SO looking forward to the end of the month,… starting the summer with only my final animal experience due: small mammals, pigs, & horses! In the meantime, some photos from the weekend in Siegen with Michell & his family (NOT Sieben,… no B!)

May 2nd, 2007 Musculocavernous vs Fibroelastic (of course. Duh.)

So, I’ve just now finished my 7th exam in a week and a half and am sitting down to a bit of lunch.

Last week included 5 practical exams in which I was asked to demonstrate my ability to handle a variety of animals, while answering questions regarding their husbandry needs. (OMG, did you know that horses eat grass? I totally blanked on that and may have to resit but we’ll see…., I find out tomorrow probably) followed by a big long written exam on Friday morning in which we needed to answer 5 out of 8 short essay questions regarding animal husbandry practices, such as: “What abnormal behaviors might occur in farm animals being raised in intensive production and why they are significant?” My Thursday horse exam was definitely my worst but my fingers are crossed as I’ve got plans to be out of town that I’d rather not change. They were basic Pass/Fail and we resit if need be the week after next. Today’s exam was an oral examination on Large Animal Surface and Topographical Anatomy which for me ended up being ten minutes of talking about horse penises and testicles followed by five minutes discussing the nerve innervation of cattle horns. WooT!

Our week will be wrapped up with two (of 15 or so) long days learning neurology. We have the week after next for resits (as I said) and then several more sets of exams! (Immunology, Pathology and Infectious Diseases, ie. parasites, bacteria and viruses, followed by Animal Body 2: Reproduction and Neurology.) I’m most nervous about the IPID because the course contains so much complex information none of which I know yet but that’s okay, I’ve got a few weeks to master a lot of material and right now, I feel good. Am going climbing.

May 1st, 2007 March Madness, April Fools, May Flowers

Greetings from NewYork! This entry is by special request for my dear friend Gary, and because I’ve been so miserably out of touch, and because I need to get started on something, anything, even if it’s not technically WORK before I waste my entire vacation to computer games. I’ve been busy for the last few months but not so busy as to be excused from pulling my weight.

——————————

AND That was as far as I have gotten in terms of a blog entry in the last two months. In brief: toured the Highlands with my climbing buddies, started dating, went to North Yorkshire to help sheep birth lambs, saw Manchester, and went on vacation. Now it’s exam time but our lectures are not yet completed so we’ll have some more of those too in between (during what for 2nd years is study time and for me will be a trip to Germany.) before wrapping for the year at the end of May, moving, spending three more weeks doing extra-mural studies / animal handling “training” experiences with pigs and horses, then -fingers crossed- starting an amazing summer. Photos to follow whenever I actually figure out how to get the new camera (thank you again Dad!) to communicate with the old laptop.
