There are weird little differences about life in Scotland that are starting to become the norm - then a little thing will go wrong and it’s suddenly a foreign country again. For example, when we were first looking at this place I told the landlord that the light was blown out because I kept pulling on the string in the bathroom and nothing was happening. (Did I tell you this story already? It’s been pointed out to me lately how often I repeat the same information.) He walks over and pushes the switch on the OUTSIDE wall - of course because ALL the bathrooms it seems have the light outside the door - and is like, “No it’s not.” So I’m like, “What’s the string for then?” and he says, “It’s the shower.” “The shower. Of course.” “Didn’t you ever hear of an electric shower?” “No.” “You pull a string to flip this switch and it heats the water.” “Um,… but there’s no water coming out.” “You push the button on the wall.” “Oh.” “You probably don’t know about the electric either then, huh?” “What about the electric?” There is this credit card that you take down to the BP and buy flat specific prepaid electric on. Prepaid electric? Like the mobile, it’s pay-as-you-go! Okay, so that’s old news and become routine. What was the new one? The lightbulbs… that push in to unlock from the base…. Posted in School |

I liked that shower, very different, but very cool. Sounds like the place is still doing well! Say hi to your flatmates.
