Eileen, Jen and I drove down to Garden Grove to meet up with Pauline and her friends for the Tet Festival (Vietnamese New Year celebration). After the fair, we went to eat yummy Pho and then finished the night with a visit to the Buddhist Temple where we got our good luck coins in red envelopes, burned prayer incense, and got our fortunes (I took Sô 27 - Què Thái Bình but then was told we were supposed to shake the sticks in order to get our number. So I shook the sticks and got #19, and put it away before looking for the letter which you are ALSO supposed to get because each number has four possible outcomes? I don’t know what all that means. Too confusing. oh well - I like my fortune and I’m sticking to it.) Excellent good times.

| January 28th, 2006 | Scientists to hunt “bigfoot” in rainforest |
Fri Jan 27, 2006 9:52 AM ET KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia plans to send two teams of scientists to scour its southern rainforests and track down a huge ape said to have been spotted there, a government official said Friday. “Bigfoot” fever has dominated Malaysian newspaper headlines for several weeks now, with several dramatic sightings of a hairy, gorilla-like creature reported in the thick forest in the southern state of Johor. One local man said he saw a 10-foot (three meter) tall ape standing on two legs beside a river, according to one report. “Yes, the state government has decided to send teams of scientists to try and track it,” said a state official who declined to be named. But he gave no further details. I saw KING KONG. Granted there could be one or several less contre-temps per campaign and thus eliminate that extra hour with no loss to structure or integrity, but otherwise I was remarkably pleasantly surprised. The portrayal of depression era NYC was enthralling, no too strong,… enchanting? And both Naomi Watts and Adrian Brody captured my hearts. However the winning performance was truly Kong’s. Jackson’s tale is of compassion breaking through isolating loneliness, the defeat of majesty (& mystery) by capitalism, and the crushing heartbreak of betrayal. Yes, I bought the friendship & the love. What can I say? Hook, line & sinker, I’m a sucker. |

| January 25th, 2006 | This one is for you, Dan |
Oh my god! I made the most amazing food the other night: mac & cheese. I couldn’t decide between the healthy Laurel’s Kitchen recipe or the fattening Joy of Cooking baked version so… I melded the two together. It was so GREAT! 2 cups of macaroni (I used mini shells) 2 cups of cheese (*it calls for sharp chedder but I used medium. Oh well. :P) 2 cups of milk Laurel’s version has mushrooms, celery, & sauted onion. Plus you toast the whole wheat flour. So excellent. This is like the fourth dish I’ve made for myself in like the last WEEK. I can’t believe how amazing it is to cook for yourself. So yummy, but so hard to not eat too much. Hee hee. |

Now that I’m unemployed and have a little free time to enjoy I’m rediscovering some of my old favorite recreations including: playing scrabble with friends, hiking, reading, writing haiku poetry on the spot. But I’ve never written anything as good as these. Hee hee hee. Thank you, Kyle. |
