We knew it was going to happen - John Roberts has been confirmed. The thing is, as unabashedly detrimental as this administration is, no guilt or responsibility sticks. No one seems capable of preventing the Junior from getting everything he wants. I don’t understand what he has over his peers but sadly it works. It’s a dark time for women, a dark time for civil rights. The times they are a changing and may it show some change towards a bright future. Purged of apathy, replaced with Hope. Posted in History |

All we can hope is that after GW leaves office, we will have hope again. I can’t wait until 2008. Maybe then it’s won’t feel as much like 1984.

Hi,"Jack" - thanks for playing - glad to hear your opinion! I just want to point out: "Superbly Qulified by Education" and "Well Within The Mainstream Of American Legal Thought" doesn’t mean his legal influence will represent my values. It’s not that I don’t recognize his merits, but that I fear his beliefs. Maybe I’m not the majority voice but this country was founded by a minority. And minority rights are not really the concern of the Republican party. Nor is environmental protection, reproductive freedom or gay marriage, right? Bottom line: what he hasn’t said may hurt me.

1. Qualified, not Qulified.
2. Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr. worked behind the scenes for gay rights activists, and his legal expertise helped them persuade the Supreme Court to issue a landmark 1996 ruling protecting people from discrimination because of their sexual orientation.
Then a lawyer specializing in appellate work, the conservative Roberts helped represent the gay rights activists as part of his law firm’s pro bono work. He did not write the legal briefs or argue the case before the high court, but he was instrumental in reviewing filings and preparing oral arguments, according to several lawyers intimately involved in the case.

3. Bottom line: Check your facts (and spelling) prior to submission.
