Scientists have begun blurring the line between human and animal by producing chimeras—a hybrid creature that’s part human, part animal.

Weird and creepy lines, blurred since the introduction of the tomalontomalon, or salmatosalmato of the 90s are getting more confusing. (brochure providing the history in brief) As we all know, there is a high level of risk involved in releasing crossbred species into the wild, with specialists (and amphibians) particularly in danger of losing their niche. But as noted in the article, the potential benefits may outweigh the risks. Personally I’m terrified of this slippery slope of progress. As IDreamInCode (who brought the article to my attention) reiterates, “What legal rights will a chimera be granted?” More fodder for PETA?
